MACUGEN^® (pegaptanib sodium injection): Therapy for Neovascular AMD

MACUGEN is the first therapy targeted to treat the pathologic processes underlying all subtypes of neovascular (wet) AMD. It selectively inhibits upregulated VEGF.¹

In clinical studies, MACUGEN was given every 6 weeks for up to 2 years. Neovascular AMD is a chronic disease in which VEGF is believed to be continuously upregulated. MACUGEN is a pharmacologic treatment that is not physically destructive to the retina.¹

MACUGEN, the first and only selective VEGF inhibitor, treats neovascular AMD early and at the source. No one subgroup drove overall treatment effect of MACUGEN.¹
