MACUGEN® (pegaptanib sodium injection): Therapy for Neovascular AMD

MACUGEN is the first therapy targeted to treat the pathologic processes underlying all subtypes of neovascular (wet) AMD. It selectively inhibits upregulated VEGF.1

In clinical studies, MACUGEN was given every 6 weeks for up to 2 years. Neovascular AMD is a chronic disease in which VEGF is believed to be continuously upregulated. MACUGEN is a pharmacologic treatment that is not physically destructive to the retina.1

MACUGEN, the first and only selective VEGF inhibitor, treats neovascular AMD early and at the source. No one subgroup drove overall treatment effect of MACUGEN.1
